The Brunate Balcony Trail: A Food Lover’s Walking Guide Above Lake Como

Brunate isn’t just a village with a view — it’s the starting point for some of the most rewarding walks above Lake Como. The Brunate Balcony Trail takes you through chestnut forests, past Liberty-style villas and up to panoramic viewpoints that stretch from the Swiss Alps to the Po Valley. And the best part? Every trail leads back to MamaGina for a well-earned meal.

Trail 1: Brunate to the Volta Lighthouse (Faro Voltiano)

Distance: 2 km one way | Duration: 40 minutes | Difficulty: Easy. The most iconic walk from Brunate leads to the Faro Voltiano — the lighthouse built in 1927 to honour Alessandro Volta. The path winds through forest and opens to a 360-degree panorama: Lake Como below, the Alps all around, and on clear days, the distant shimmer of Milan’s skyline.

Trail 2: The San Maurizio Chapel Walk

Distance: 1.5 km | Duration: 30 minutes | Difficulty: Easy. A gentle uphill walk through Brunate’s upper village to the Chapel of San Maurizio. The viewpoint here is arguably the finest on the entire lake — a true “balcony” over the water with Monte Rosa visible to the west.
